New Honda ECUs are flash programmable, which means they can be repeatedly reprogrammed without removing any chips. Through extensive dyno testing, Hondata has developed a number of programs to enhance engine performance. The K-Series engines add another dimension to Honda tuning: iVTEC, or to be specific, an intake cam that can be varied by as much as 50 degrees on the fly. Changes are mainly made by advancing the ignition, lowering the VTEC, and advancing the cam angle. This equates to more mid-range power, higher revs, and faster accerleration. Hondata ECU reflashes are available only for 2002 onwards vehicles. Reflashes are optimized for intakes and catback exhausts.
